Thinking about getting a cat?

Cats are known to be wonderful additions to families and it's very important to understand the responsibilities that come with adding a cat to your home. Fortunately, cats are relatively low maintenance pets compared with dogs, but there are still a few things you need to know to ensure that your cat is happy and healthy.

To adequately provide a nurturing environment for your cat, it is recommended to:

  • Purchase quality cat food and determine a good diet (preferably with a veterinarian)

  • Give constant access to water

  •  Brush or comb your cat regularly

  • Pet and handle your cat gently

  • Provide human companionship

  • Ensure a comfy and clean area

  • Provide a litter box that you maintain daily

  • Get your cat neutered or spayed

  • Vaccinate it against feline diseases

  • Worm frequently and give treatment for fleas

  • Take your cat to a vet when your cat shows signs of illness.

  • Have the financial means to provide for your cat

  • Put an ID tag

  • Provide a scratching post and cut claws often
